The Fortress city of Korcula Sept 2023

Korcula is one of Croatia’s most treasured islands although, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, not quite as popular as some of its slightly more northern counterparts, such as Brac and Hvar. This may be because the island is a little further away to get to (both from Split or Dubrovnik) and some of the most convenient ferry services to the island only run in the summer.

The main areas are Korcula Town (people call it “Little Dubrovnik” because of its medieval squares, churches, palaces and houses which are similar to the real Dubrovnik), Vela Luka and Lumbarda. There are also smaller towns and villages dotted around the island for those looking for a more secluded holiday.

We loved walking through the city of Korcula. Amazing history but at the same time there are numerous restaurants and bars that give the city a modern vibe even though places are within the medieval walls built to protect this coastal city.

There are two things that you must do while you are in the town of Korcula.

The Massimo cocktail bar is a one of a kind. The bar is situated at the top of a tower and you must climb a steep ladder to get there. Once you get to the open air bar on top they have incredible drinks with a wonderful view. The drinks take a little bit of time to arrive but you'll see why on the video below. Its a fantastic place to watch the sunset.

The bell tower in the middle of town is the other must see site. After a short walk up the stairs you will soon see incredible 360 degree views all around the city and Island of Korchula

The View from the Bell Tower

Goodbye to Korcula.
