I must admit, navigating this jungle, where the Vietnam War took place, is extremely challenging. The Chu Chi tunnels are located in the jungle regions where the North Vietnamese concealed themselves underground outside of Saigon before capturing the city. This was among the hardest areas for the Americans to defend Saigon and counter the Vietcong's guerrilla warfare. Numerous Americans lost their lives here, making it difficult to walk through this jungle and witness the places where so many young men perished.
If you're leaving Saigon and heading to the tunnels, I highly suggest choosing a boat ride. This trip lasts approximately 45 minutes, as opposed to the two-hour bus ride to the Chu Chi tunnels. During the journey, you'll witness many scenes depicting the riverine lifestyle of the Vietnamese people. You'll observe ferries carrying scooters across the river, fishermen, and improvised houses.
