After five wonderful days in Prague it was time to catch the train to Vienna.
I highly recommend taking the train, it is very comfortable and pretty easy to navigate. You board the train at Wilsonova train station. At first it might be a little overwhelming but there are lots of people that will help you. We took Czech Railway to the Vienna Central Station. It is about a four hour train trip but it is a beautiful ride. I highly recommend going business class it is very comfortable and you are right next to the food and drink car.
Vienna is a beautiful and majestic city. Everywhere you look you see amazing architecture and history. We took several walking tours to see all the highlights of Vienna. What stands out most is everywhere you look are scenes of the long history of the city. Most people dress quite sharply and the city has a busy energy. It goes without saying the food is fabulous and we were very lucky to stay at the Park Hyatt Vienna right in the middle of old town. A lovely historic hotel that has been updated with beautiful rooms and classic service.
The Kapuzinergruft is the burial place of the Habsburg Emperors who were the ruling family of Vienna. Deep under the city you can visit the resting place of generations of Habsburgs. There are 150 people buried at this imperial crypt and the artwork of each of these coffins is amazing and unique.
Places that you must see in the area around old town Vienna are the Hofburg palace a great place to walk and see beautiful architecture and design. The Sisi museum is dedicated to the life of Empress Sisi of Habsburg who was a popular figure in her time with a tragic life. One of my favorite museums was the Imperial Treasury which holds an incredible collection of artwork and treasures from the Habsburgs Family collection from around the world.
Imperial Treasure
The Spanish Riding School that is right in the middle of the Hofburg palace is also a must see. The Lipizzanar stallions are trained every day at 10 o'clock and the public is invited in to watch. I highly recommend you get a ticket and check this out, no pictures are allowed during training but you can take pictures before inside the beautiful training facility.
We really loved Vienna it had incredible architecture and history and was so elegant and beautiful.
