One of the reasons we wanted to spend a month in New York was that we never seem to get to do everything on our list when we visit. We didn't do everything we wanted to do in a month but we had a great time and did a lot of interesting things here are a few of the highlights.
Dan White magic show at the Nomad hotel—we kind of stumbled across this magic show looking for things to do and there were two tickets available the next evening which we decided to go ahead and book based on the rave reviews. The show is in a very cool hotel so we went a little early and had a drink at the very hip bar there. When we went to the area to wait to get into the show we started chatting with other people and realized we had gotten very lucky to get these tickets at the last minute most of the people we spoke to had ordered the tickets months in advance.
The magic show is in a relatively small room we bought the second to the most expensive tickets and they were totally worth it we were right on the aisle just one row from the stage. This show is absolutely amazing I can't recommend it more highly. Ken and I have been to the Magic Castle in Los Angeles several times and we have never seen a show like this one. I don't want to give away any other surprises but I was thrilled to be called up on the stage to participate in the final illusion it was just a really fun night. We decided to skip dinner at the hotel because it was quite expensive and after the show was over we walked down the block to The Smith and had a bite there which was delicious.
Bike Tour and Sunset walking tour of Central Park—these were two separate tours we did of Central Park the biking tour took us the entire length of the park which we really enjoyed and the guide described some of the features of the park and their history. We both really enjoyed seeing almost all of Central Park we had never been far north to the Harlem end and it was beautiful and completely different than the rest of the park, very green more like being in a forest.
When we did the walking tour we got lucky and we were the only people on the tour with the guide so we spent a lot of time looking at details of the park going through little paths that we had never seen before and parts of the park like the Belvedere Castle. We ended up on the west side of the park and decided to have dinner over there for a change since we had spent most of the time we were in New York on the Eastside it was fun to spend a little time on the Westside.
Mastering the subway—yes it can be hot and smelly but it is the fastest, easiest and cheapest way to get around New York. We really got the hang of using the subway even going cross town and changing to different lines on one trip.
Hillsong Church—Ken and I miss our church home in Los Angeles and have been trying to go to church on Sunday where ever we happen to be that day. I had read about Hillsong Church and wanted to try it in New York, what an amazing vibrant and Spirit filled church! We were able to go twice when we were there and really loved the energy and enthusiasm. If we lived in New York this could be our church home we also loved that the church seems very engaged and actively working in the community.
Museums etc. etc.—of course it's New York so we went to many, many museums I'm not going to recount them all but they were all wonderful in their own way, New York has such a wide variety of museums to enjoy.
