Coronavirus Detour

Hi Friends—today was the day that we were supposed to fly to Barcelona to start our three month European adventure. Needless to say we will not be leaving for the airport anytime soon! We are keeping our options open to perhaps doing part of the European trip in May or June if things improve significantly but for now we are staying in the United States.

Since we don't have a home we have had to scramble a bit to figure out what our next steps will be. At this point we are going to drive to Austin Texas this week and stay there for two weeks in an Airbnb. Austin has been on our list to check out as a possible long-term retirement spot so we decided to take this change in our plans to head to Texas. From Austin we will probably come back to California and head to Palm Springs for a few weeks. We don't want to plan too far ahead because this whole situation seems very fluid and we just want to roll with the punches and see what works best as things develop.

We have another long trip planned for the end of August doing three weeks on safari in Kenya and then going on to two weeks on the Italian coast and some time in Greece. Of course that is a bit up in the air as of now so we will just have to see if those plans come through. We are hoping by then everything will be much better.

Of course this has been disappointing we spent a tremendous amount of time planning our three months in Europe, but we are grateful that many of our reservations were able to be canceled and refunded. We are also mindful that our issues are minor compared to people who are ill or facing serious economic problems from the virus.

So on to Austin! We are praying for a quick end to this crisis and are comforted that God is sovereign and merciful.
